Open since 1855, the Museo Civico Pinacoteca houses collections of painting, sculpture, the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints and the Numismatic Cabinet. Among the significant works are the altarpieces by Bartolomeo Montagna and Cima da Conegliano, canvases by Tintoretto, Van Dyck, Tiepolo and Piazzetta, 33 drawings by Palladio.
Recent donations have brought twentieth-century artists Carrà, De Pisis, Guidi, Licini, Rosai, Severini, Vedova to the exhibition.

The museum itself stands on the hill where in 1848 there was a heroic resistance from the city of Vicenza by the independence troops.
On display is a precious series of documents from the Risorgimento including printed publications, periodicals, portraits, medals and decorations, paintings, prints, newspapers, manuscripts, diaries, announcements and proclamations, decrees, private deeds, coins, civil and military, sidearms and firearms, flags.

The heritage of the diocese of the city of Vicenza on display since 2005: the itinerary opens with the archaeological sections which focus on the period of the appearance of Christianity in the city. Remains of liturgical furnishings from the early medieval period and a large Roman basin used as a public fountain, early medieval sculptures and fourteenth-century frescoes follow.
On the first floor, an exhaustive pictorial section sheds light on the Renaissance, Baroque and eighteenth-century periods of the city of Vicenza.
